15 students from the Stagecoach Chigwell had the chance to perform on a West End stage when they took part in a spectacular musical celebration last weekend at one of London’s most famous theatres, Her Majesty’s.Students from 8 other Stagecoach schools across the country, together with The Surrey Choir, entertained the audience with a lively programme of songs and routines from favourite musicals which also included original work created by the students themselves. Students representing Chigwell, whose ages range from 8 – 17yrs, rehearsed together for weeks beforehand on their own particular contribution. Students opened their programme with Joyful, Joyful (taken from the film version of Sister Act) followed by So You Wanna be a Boxer (from Bugsy Malone) and ended with Shakalababy (from Bombay Dreams). The performance helped raise money for Stagecoach’s charitable trust, InterAct, which provides inclusive workshops bringing drama, movement and music to young people regardless of educational, physical or emotional needs. Students from InterAct Hounslow took to the stage themselves, delighting the audience in a Mary Poppins medley of their own as the show’s finale. Stagecoach is Britain’s largest part-time theatre school offering quality training in drama, dance and singing to young people from 4-18 at weekends where classes are designed to build confidence and develop communication through performance skills. Currently there are over 620 schools in the UK.For further information about Stagecoach Chigwell, contact Principal Suzanna Barnes on 07966 243104 or visit the Stagecoach website at: www.stagecoach.co.uk/chigwell |
