The National Childbirth Trust is Europe’s largest childbirth and parenting charity, Mags Oakley outlines the benefits of joining your local branch.

The NCT is Europe’s largest childbirth and parenting charity. The NCT provides information and practical support on all aspects of pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood and campaign for improvements in maternity services in the UK.

With 40,000 members in 400 branches, including 6,000 volunteers and trained workers, the NCT helps 300,000 parents each year through antenatal classes and postnatal and breastfeeding support network. The NCT aims to give all parents-to-be the information and support they need to have a happy and rewarding experience of becoming a parent.

The local branch of the NCT, Harlow and Epping is a relatively new branch and our membership is small but growing. We have some very enthusiastic volunteers on the committee who are working hard to make the branch successful. The group from Epping covers Buckhurst Hill, Loughton, Theydon Bois and Epping. We have regular coffee mornings, shared supper evenings and when the weather improves, we are planning some long walks with picnic stops in the forest.
