Club Focus...Orion Harriers Athletics Club Print E-mail

If you are a hard-core, dedicated athlete, who takes your training and competition very seriously, or if you enjoy running for the social value and just to keep fit, there is always a group for you at Orion Harriers.

Orion Harriers is a club on the charge and one that is always looking out for new members. It is an athletics and cross-country club that encourages people of all ages to join. There is an equally weighted level of dedication and support placed upon the junior and senior sections of the club. There is a constant influx of new recruits coming into the club and all are welcome, regardless of ability and ambitions.

A wonderful feature of training with Orion is the fact that we have Epping Forest right on our door-step (quite literally) which means you can admire the picturesque scenery and really escape from the frenetic town life to the peaceful avenues the forest offers.

At the moment, the junior section of the club is flourishing. Five of our junior athletes represented Essex in the previous cross-country season and four of the runners notched medals in last summer's Essex school athletics championships. All of our teams have great competition within them and the juniors spur each other on to greater heights with good team competitiveness and camaraderie. There is a great deal of emphasis placed upon nurturing the youth with a view towards the Olympic Games, 2012.  There is always direction with the junior set-up at Orion, and the training schemes are varied and are focused on peaking for key events and building for the future.

Another positive aspect in Orion's set-up is the great team spirit that exists within the camp. All our new runners settle in quickly and enjoy the social value of the Orion package.

Even if running and competition is not the thing for you, you may wish to become a coach to young athletes. Coaching gives rise to increased confidence levels and helps you become better equipped in dealing with organised situations.

There is something for everyone at Orion and it has provided many with a worthwhile hobby and allows that person to push themselves to the physical and mental limits in the quest of finding something out about yourself.
